Strakonice
Strakonice has a remarkable connection to North Africa. In Strakonice, the traditional North African head wear, the fez is manufactured.

In Strakonice (27.000 inhabitant) the river the Volyňká flows into the Otava.
Like many Czech cities and towns, Strakonice isn't build around a market square but around the castle.
The castle, a 12th century water castle, is the most important monument in Strakonice. In later times the castle became the principal seat of the Order of St. John in Bohemia and it changed into a fortified monastery. Really beautiful are the 14th century wall paintings.

In the castle is a museum where utensils for gold digging are on diplay.
Another part of the museum is dedicated to the bagpipe. This instrument plays the major role in a music festival that is held every other year in Strakonice. In 2006 the festival will take place from the 24th to the 27th of August.
Other points of interest in the city are the 16th century Church of St. Margareta and the Baroque Church of Wenceslas.
