The castle Rabí is the largest castle ruin of Bohemia and lies about 8 kilometers north of Sušice
on a hill above the river Otava
It is a very old castle that was first mentioned in the 12th century, however no one knows how old it really is.
Castle Rabí is because of its size very impressive and must have given, during its glory days, an unconquerable impression to its enemies.
Nevertheless the castle has been seized for several times by the Hussiets in the 15th century. The castle had an important strategic and economic value because of its location along the river the Otava in which gold was found.
This castle is a must see when you visit Sušice
and its surroundings. See it on the map
